A History Lesson With Booze: Ronnie Biggs and the “Rob Me Ronnie”
This week back in 2001, notorious British heist-meister Ronnie Biggs returned to England for a pint of bitter… knowing full well he’d be arrested for his role in one of the most audacious robberies in UK history. Now here’s a drink to help YOU escape.
“Rob Me Ronnie,” as devised by Robert Krajewski, of Adventure Bar & Lounge in Ronnie’s hometown of London, England:
In a shaker over ice, combine:
- 1.5 oz. Beefeater gin
- 1/2 oz. Galliano vanilla liqueur
- 1/4 oz. of simple syrup
Meanwhile, in a chilled martini glass, pour:
- 1 oz London Pride Real Ale
Shake contents of shaker and pour into martini glass over the ale. Drink with one hand, while holding up your other, palm in, index and middle fingers in a V facing England.
Guest of Honor: Demetri Martin
Demetri Martin made a name for himself with a witty standup act replete with onstage charts and graphs. The Youth Correspondent on “The Daily Show,” he also starred in Ang Lee’s film “Taking Woodstock” and landed his own Comedy Central show “Important Things with Demetri Martin.” His new, aptly-titled book This Is A Book collects short prose pieces, drawings… and a multi-page palindrome. Demetri chats with Rico about fortune cookies, ancient jokes, and his own brain.
