A History Lesson With Booze: The Closing Bell and the “Exchange Elixir”
This month back in 1817, the New York Stock Exchange formally began. We celebrate by telling you all about its most famous symbol: The Closing Bell… and then retire to one of America’s best-known restaurants to toast the end of a hard day on the floor.
The Exchange Elixir, as mixed by Dave DiCerbo at Les Halles bistro, NYC:
In a shaker add:
- 2 oz. vodka
- 2 oz. St. Germaine
- fresh lemon and lime juice
- dash cranberry juice for color
- dash grapefruit juice
Add ice, shake and strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with lemon peel. Avoid entirely when taking risks with other people’s money.
Guest of Honor: Tig Notaro
Tig Notaro starred in her own small-screen special on Comedy Central… and has a recurring role on the Sarah Silverman Program. She’s also the only comic we know who tours with Swedish indie-pop stars. Tig tells Brendan about portraying Joan Jett’s Mom, her youthful fascination with the Civil War, and how Jimmy Kimmel sucks (not).
The Main Course: Pop Up Lunch
Like increasing numbers of her urban brethren and sistren, designer Ali Pulver loves getting lunch from gourmet food trucks… but hates figuring out how to consume the food with her hands full. So she created Pop Up Lunch — a series of portable objects that turn ordinary “street furniture” into eating stations. Rico gets a demonstration.
